Scores of people, many accompanied by four-legged friends bedecked in BAARK! doggie-bandanas, took to West Bay Street for BAARK!’s Strut Your Mutt Walkathon December 11, sponsored by Pet Food Institute-Caribbean.

“BAARK! has been doing great work with its spay/neuter and education projects since 2009,” said Sandra Kemp, Pet Food Institute-Caribbean representative. “They are really focused in their mission to reduce the homeless animal population in The Bahamas and we really wanted to come alongside them in their efforts. And the Strut Your Mutt walkathon is such a great idea – people and pets out to promote pet wellness. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

In addition to the Walk, the 3-hour event included a raffle, baked goodies that included bone-shaped sugar cookies and mini-cupcakes topped with paws print icing and a special Smooch Your Pooch photo booth where people and pets cozied up for the camera.

“It was really, really exciting,” said Laura Kimble, event organizer. “There are hardly any activities that people can do with their dogs and so it was great to see so many out. It looks like are well on our way to our $10,000 goal and all funds raised will be used for our spay/neuter and education programs. We’re so glad that Pet Food Institute-Caribbean came aboard as a Top Dog Sponsor.  Without their support, and the support of others in the business community, we just couldn’t do what we do.”

The Pet Food Institute-Caribbean is a non-profit organisation that promotes initiatives to advance pet nutrition and the overall quality of pet food in The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and Jamaica.
